USS GRANT'S SECOND REUNION JUNE 22-26, 2005 BRANSON, MISSOURI
The second USS Grant Reunion was held at The Grand Plaza Hotel in Branson, Missouri. The reunion was conducted mainly in a Hospitality Room within the hotel. There were approximately 80 Shipmates and guests in attendance.
The reunion began on Wednesday evening with a "Welcome Aboad Reception". There were plenty of refreshments and snack foods for all to enjoy. Many shipmates brought memorabila, photos and tall tales with them to share with the group. The Hospitality Room was decorated by Chief's Larry Jordan and Ray Lomberk and their wives Ruth and Ellie.
On Thursday, there was an "Area Guided Tour" of Branson by bus with a visit to the Veterans Museum. The Museum was exceptional and we quickly learned that residents of Branson are BIG military supporters. Everywhere we went, we were recognized for our service. That evening we enjoyed a great meal at the Uptown Grill followed by great seats and entertainment at the "Lost In The 50's Show" which featured dancers and singers recalling the great rock n' roll hits from the 50's. The day ended with more sea tales in the Hospitality Room of the hotel.
Friday was a free day with many shipmates heading out to the dozens of Shows available in Branson. A group headed by Chuck McGregor played golf in the first USS Grant Reunion Tournament at one of the local courses in Branson. All players received special USS Grant golf balls as memento for their participation. Friday night and we were all off to board the Showboat "Branson Belle" for a Dinner, Show and Cruise around Table Rock Lake. The dinner was great and the entertainment was spectacular. We returned to the Hospitality Room at the end of the day. Chief Larry Jordan had drawings each evening for Submarine Door Prizes. More salty tales were heard by all.
Saturday was another free day for shipmates and their guests to enjoy the many attractions in Branson. A group photo was taken in the late afternoon and the day was ended with a USS Grant Barbecue on the top penthouse floor of the hotel. The top floor has it's own bar and dance floor with windows that afford a view of all of Branson. A great time was had by all.
Sunday was checkout time. After enjoying our daily free Continental Breakfast , a few speeches were made and all in attendance agreed that we would need to continue with the effort to have more reunions.
